A philosophy for ambient instruments
CarecastLive treats weather as raw material for composition. Temperature shifts the pitch center. Rain density controls how often notes fall. Wind opens the filter. The result isn't a simulation of weather — it's weather, expressed in sound.
Mark Weiser described calm technology as something that informs without demanding attention. CarecastLive takes that literally. The sound runs quietly in a browser tab. You don't interact with it. It doesn't notify you. Awareness of the weather — or a friend's weather — arrives on its own, when you're ready for it.
There are no pre-recorded loops. Every moment is computed in real time from incoming weather data, shaped by probability and parameter mapping. The system has no memory of what it just played. Like weather itself, it doesn't repeat.
The visual layer follows the same data as the sound — not to illustrate it, but to deepen it. Shader-based generative animation responds to wind, cloud cover, and rain in real time. Two senses, one atmosphere.
